How often do you receive an invitation via Paperless Post or Evite, open it, and then forget to respond? This used to happen to me more frequently than I’d like to admit. I’d open the invitation, get distracted and then forget to respond, leaving the host hanging (and cue that awkward mass e-mail I hate to send when I host – ‘Please RSVP’). Dun dun dun!
When my first daughter was in her toddler years, our birthday parties were mostly held at our home and it wasn’t all-that-necessary for me to know my exact numbers. But now that my kids like to have their parties at play places, there’s always a hard cutoff date that you have to know your numbers by. And they are serious about those numbers. Go over 25 and you have to get an extra employee, extra fees, sign over rights to your firstborn child, etc.
In addition to the venue’s restraints, the host also needs the RSVP’s to consider wether they’ll have space to invite siblings, and to plan for purchasing food and party favors (and oh-hey, it’s okay to skip party favors! Still Polite AF).
