15 of my favorite gift ideas
With three kids, we accumulate so. much. stuff. I’m much less attached to the kids’ clutter than I used to be, and the hardest part for me now is sort of directing what comes in from well-meaning gift givers. Okay, I actually have no boundaries on that whatsoever, but I do get super excited when our family asks me what the kids like or need. That’s seriously so thoughtful. BUT. If it’s something the kids don’t play with, I’ve mostly removed the guilt about donating things that aren’t used.
Cause once we went streamlined, I don’t wanna go back! (If you’ve been following along for a while, you may have seen the organizing work I did with my friend Amy at Clutter Away LA on our pantry, playroom and Matt’s closet.)
But…as for what I’m giving this year, I like to find things my loved ones will light up about. Experiences (we have a surprise one for the kids I can’t wait to reveal!) are number one for me, followed by one special thing they’ll go bananas about, and maybe a few other little novelties that tap into what they’re about or what they need.
So here are some of my top gift ideas this year:
Ornament Picture Frames (above). I used these from Pottery Barn and had wallet sized pictures printed via Snapfish and picked them up atWalgreen’s.
American Girl Car. This is sold out now, but um, Santa bid for one on ebay.
Mars Habitat. Sterling is into AG Boys and this is his big gift!
Fortnite Socks. “Do Not Disturb, I’m Playing Fortnite” on the feet of the socks. How cute!
Harry and David’s baskets. These are really good. We always send one to my aunt and grandfather.
Little Tikes Shop ‘N Learn Check Out. Shepherd loves this stuff so much he might actually become a chef. He’d be a really loud one, with a TV show saying “BAM” when he sprinkled chili flakes or whatever.
Cute iphone charger. Somehow we’ve lost all of our ipad chargers, etc., etc. I swear Matt hordes them. So I’m getting everyone a cute one for their stocking
A zip line. This is Scarlet’s big request. Our plan is to set it up in the backyard on Christmas Eve while they’re sleeping
Girls Uggs. The sparkly ones I wanted to get Scarlet were sold out, but I loved these with the ties in the back, too.
Barbie Power Wheels Camper. This, believe it or not, is for Shepherd. Scarlet suggested it because it has all the things he loves. It drives, it has a kitchen, a radio. He’ll be set with this.
Harry Potter Legos. There aren’t many designs of these, but we got our kids the Quiddich set and the small part of the castle. Then, if they actually build it, we can add on for a birthday or something like that.
Don’t forget to check out this article on What to Tip for the Holidays! I interviewed my mother-in-law and she tells it how it is on what your kids’ teachers really appreciate, why ‘cash’ is better than a gift card, and how much to tip your housekeeper or any other service provider you see regularly.
