Hi.

My Favorite Day Date (and Our Nine-Year Anniversary!)

My Favorite Day Date (and Our Nine-Year Anniversary!)

On our honeymoon, nine-years-ago

When we were on our honeymoon, Matt and I decided for our ten-year wedding anniversary we’d come back to St. Bart’s and renew our vows, have our (then) unborn children stay in the room next to us, with Nana or a nanny or whatever people did with their kids on vacation, and I’d obviously have my wedding dress cut into a cocktail dress appropriate for a beach vow renewal.

Now, I may be jumping the gun a little bit, as we have one more year until our 10th wedding anniversary, but…while we’d like to go back to St. Bart’s and relive that magical time right after we were married, I think the vow renewal part is pretty funny, and mostly just reminds me of something Kris and Bruce did before he became Kaitlin. So…we’ll skip that. It’s just, ten years ago, ten years seemed like a LONG time. Now, looking back, goodness, it flew by.

Back to the potential anniversary trip though — it’ll take an army, but we’ll probably leave the kids home and see if we can’t sneak out for the better part of a week. (And by sneak out, I mean fully stock the fridge, cupboards and freezer, make 1,000 finely tuned arrangements to have Grandma and various sitters stay with and schlep the three kids to their various schools and after school practices and whatnot. Sneaking out is not what you do when you prep to to out of town without your babies. Hehe).

So this year, on our nine-year anniversary, Matt planned the perfect little half day getaway for us. We have a babysitter we love here in Austin and knowing the kids were happy and well taken care of with her, we were able to relax and enjoy a day to ourselves.

Matt planned everything, which for me, as the planner for our family, is extra nice. He made arrangements for us to go to the Austin Lake House Spa, where we had lunch and champagne and sat by the pool. The weather is pretty unpredictable this time of year in Austin, but we ended up with a 70-and-sunny kind of day. We had a couples massage and got to use the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. Then we got ready at the spa and went out to the most charming restaurant I’ve been to so far in Austin, Jeffreys.

On our little anniversary getaway. Not as many selfies as on our honeymoon, haha. And the honeymoon selfies were literally taken on a camera that was turned around, OG style.

Anywayyyy, I’m just a glow reminiscing on our wedding and the past (almost) 12 years of our lives together.

I’d love to hear from readers how they celebrate anniversaries!
